Things are taking off at Westmill Organics – literally!

As the old saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. Sorry for the lack of communication of late, but we’ve been extremely busy getting things up and running – not to mention dealing with some pretty atrocious weather!

A couple of weeks ago we lost one of our six polytunnels in the gale-force winds: it literally took off and landed spectacularly in the hedge! Fortunately, no one was hurt and no crops had been planted, but it’s in tatters and it means we’re going to have to rethink some of our cropping plans.

          Before…                                                    And after…

            Westmill 10 - Polytunnel              Damaged polytunnel 3

But apart from flying polytunnels, things are generally shaping up very nicely and it’s getting to the point where I’m beginning to find a little more time to get on with other things. So this blog is the start of more regular communications with you all. I’m also excited about using Facebook and Twitter to keep you up-to-date with what’s happening here at Westmill Organics and to answer any questions you might have.

So what have we been up to since February? Well, the team has been busy propagating thousands of plants – including brassicas, squashes, beans, sweetcorn, lettuce and Brussels sprouts. Over the coming weeks our organic vegetable boxes will include more variety, such as baby bunched carrots, spring onions, new potatoes, greens, salad and early courgettes. The tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers are also now planted up in the polytunnels, waiting for the summer to start in earnest! We’re in good shape as we come into the main growing season. I really couldn’t ask for more.

What can you expect from Westmill Organics? Well, more frequent Facebook updates and the odd blog, for one thing. But our key goal is to offer you tasty, healthy, high quality fresh food that’s good for you and good for the earth. We supply weekly seasonal organic veg boxes in four sizes, as well as two different organic fruit boxes, to suit every household and budget. We deliver directly from the farm to your door in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire in a 30-mile radius from our farm at Watchfield. We’ll use our Facebook page and Twitter to let you know what’s in your box each week and to update you of any changes. But remember that we can always leave out the things you don’t want, and substitute more of what you like, so just let us know your preferences.

Finally, I’d be very grateful if you could ‘like’ and ‘share’ our Facebook page (below) and tell your friends, family and neighbours about us – especially in the Oxford, Abingdon, Swindon, Lechlade, Bampton, Carterton and Witney areas and all the villages between. Remember: they can take advantage of our trial offer and get their first box free! For more information, see our homepage or call us on 01793 783569. Find us on Facebook at and follow us on Twitter under @WestmillOrganic.

That’s it for the first update. If you have any questions or comments or requests, please get in touch.
